What: A “hands-on” approach for new and novice Hams to learn & practice radio us-age, skills, techniques, and technologies to become “Radio-Active.”
When: Once or twice a month for 2 hours – see schedule below.
Who: Any new or novice licensed Ham radio operator. (Non-licensed folks can attend too, but, can only observe.) If you have an “OARS Elmer” invite them to join you (they’re always a welcome resource). Note! Any OARS members can attend and help too!
Where: Locations will vary within the Olympia/Lacey/Tumwater areas and occasional-ly around Thurston County.
What to bring: An HT radio, good walking shoes, warm clothing (we’re outside), rain gear (if necessary), and a notepad. We’ll be standing and doing some walking. A manu-al/guide for your HT would be also helpful. Often, we will use a cell phone with your radio, so bring it too.
Preparation: Make sure your radio is fully charged and, if possible, bring a sparebattery. Also make sure your cell phone is charged. Some helpful apps will need to be occasionally downloaded to your cellphone.
